Volunteer Cooridnator

The Volunteer Coordinator for Shoals CASA provides professional support to Volunteer Advocates for children, ensuring that children involved with the CASA program receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning.  The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supervision (to include recruiting, training, screening and support) and coordination of case assignment, monitoring; and documentation of casework for all Volunteer efforts;  Volunteer Coordinator also attends Court as a program liaison; and is responsible for data collection and data management for casework and program Volunteers.  The position is full-time, exempt and is not a remote work position.

Specific Responsibilities: The Volunteer Coordinator shall be able to complete the following job duties:

  • Complete CASA Volunteer Training as provided by National CASA Association;
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, and training of new Volunteer Advocates;
  • Review new cases and assign appropriate Volunteers in consultation with the Executive Director;
  • Prepare and distribute case assignment Orders and necessary documentation;
  • Assist Volunteer Advocates in developing initial case plans and on-going strategies for advocacy;
  • Review/Proofread and distribute Volunteer Advocate court reports/status reports/other documentation;
  • Maintain database system of case management and paper case files in accordance with CASA standards;
  • Attend court hearings and child welfare meetings on behalf of CASA;
  • Assist Volunteer Advocates with tracking court dates and case meetings;
  • Provide assistance and consultation for Volunteers as needed and when requested by Volunteer Advocates/CASA;
  • Schedule and orchestrate in-service training sessions as requested and necessary in consult with CASA program staff;
  • Monitoring mandatory Volunteer Advocate in-service and training requirements;
  • Attend regular staffing with CASA personnel;
  • Actively and in an on-going manner, evaluate the performance of Volunteer Advocates;
  • Complete documentation for work as required by funders;
  • Attend conferences/seminars/meetings as requested by the Executive Director for continuing education purposes;
  • Participate in performance evaluations of the position.
  • Candidate must be able to work in a confidential environment.

 Qualifications:  The Volunteer Coordinator shall have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social-services or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience in the field of social services; human resource/volunteer management and/or education/training;
  • A strong ability to communicate with, supervise, and empower volunteers;
  • Confidence in teaching/training/coaching adult learners;
  • Strong active listening, conflict resolution, scheduling coordination, facilitation, social perceptiveness, consensus building skills as well as a strong sense of logic is necessary;
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to relate, personally and professionally, to individuals and groups from all walks of life in a manner that inspires respect and confidence;
  • Understanding of building rapport;
  • Personal computer skills with MS Office applications and other common software applications;
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse/neglect preferred;
  • Some flexibility in work schedule;
  • Acceptable work ethics, professional conduct and character, reflecting CASA program image and values;
  • Ability to motivate and retain Volunteers, match interests and work with all people in the child welfare system;
  • A good understanding of group dynamics and group facilitation skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and balance competing demands;
  • Commitment to the goals and mission of CASA.

The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director.  Salary range for the position is $28,000 - $34,000 based on experience.  Interested candidates should send cover letter, professional resume and 3 professional references to no later than 5:00 pm on October 11, 2019.  No phone calls, please.
